A Sweet Closing
Twenty-five years ago, I sold a Montclair home to a couple. Almost a year ago, they called and said they wanted my help finding a home for their friend. After lots of looking, we finally found the right property about six weeks ago. We put in the offer and, lo and behold, it was accepted.
At that time, my excited and happy clients gave me a wonderful gift – homemade chocolate chip cookies. With my love for all things chocolate, I appreciated and enjoyed every bite. Not being shy, I said to them, “Thanks, they were wonderful. I am looking forward to an even bigger bunch of cookies when we close escrow.”
Yesterday we signed closing papers and guess what? I was presented with a beautiful tin of four types of homemade cookies, all made with chocolate, including the fantastic chocolate chip variety. As I munched down, it suddenly struck me – these are not just any ordinary homemade cookies. Thelma and Sydney used to own a fantastic bakery in Oakland and Thelma teaches cooking to elementary school students.
The cookies came with a lovely note thanking me for being a “master strategist” and for my “supportive coaching.”
The house closed today. Later, I will be bringing a bottle of champagne and meeting them all there. Sometimes, real estate can be a very sweet business.
