Oral Lee Brown Ice Cream Social at Montclair Farmers’ Market
I had a double reason to visit Oakland’s Montclair Farmers’ Market this morning.
Started in 2005, the market has been a huge success. A large section of LaSalle Avenue is closed to traffic and filled with vendors whose stalls are brimming with gorgeous fruits, vegetables, pastries, ethnic foods and so much more.
The primary reason for my being there today, however, was the “Ice Cream Social,” sponsored by the Oakland Association of Realtors (OAR) to benefit the Oral Lee Brown Foundation. The foundation provides disadvantaged Oakland youngsters with a free college education.
A booth was set up to serve ice cream, generously donated by local merchants. In return for the ice cream, people were encouraged to leave a donation.
As an Oakland Realtor and former president of the Oakland Association of Realtors, I am really proud of the Association’s support of the Oral Lee Brown Foundation. Our next fundraising event is the “Walk Around the Lake” on October 3rd at Lake Merritt.
