Great place for a local history lesson
Sometimes it’s difficult to make social appointments when you work in real estate. My wife and I were planning to join this morning’s tour of Oakland’s Mountain View Cemetery, “Noted, Notable and Notorious,” but work intervened. It may seem strange to some to go traipsing among the tombstones, but think about it as a place for fascinating history lessons. Many of the historically famous San Francisco and East Bay families are buried there.
Hopefully, we will make the next tour on September 26th, “Innovators in the Arts and Sciences.” Our friend, Dennis Evanosky, an author of several books on the East Bay, will be leading another group in October.
Speaking of October, it isn’t too soon to start talking about the Dimond District’s Second Annual Oaktoberfest (cute spelling, eh?), to be held Oct. 10th. We went last year and had a lot of fun (and ate way too much!). Here I am with my camera at the 2008 Oktoberfest (last year’s spelling).
