“Orange Oil” Post Elicits Questions
Yesterday’s post about the effectiveness of orange oil for killing termites prompted an email asking whether cleaning products with orange oil kill and/or deter dust mites.
Knowing that my wife, Sonia, is into natural cleaning products, I asked her. She told me that citrus oil is used to dissolve oil and grease, allowing dirt to be more easily removed. It is thought to be useful for flea and tick removal in pet shampoos, but she was not sure if this also applied to dust mites. Sonia remembered reading, years ago, that any citric acid, e.g., lemon juice, or, as an alternative, white vinegar, mixed in water, is a great, natural cleaning product.
My curiosity aroused, I found an online site called ‘Patent Storm,’ with an informative article, “Controlling Dust Mites…,” which is worth reading.
