Fast Response in Oakland
We often have reasons to complain about how our city works, or doesn’t, but, occasionally, when something is done swiftly and correctly, acknowledgment is in order. Such is the case with a small, but not insignificant, repair completed by the City of Oakland for my wife and I the other day.
In all the years we have lived in our Oakland home, the street light in front has always functioned. It went out for the first time last week and I Googled “broken street lamps in Oakland, CA.” Amazingly, up popped a link for “SeeClickFix In Oakland: Report Potholes, Graffiti, Broken Street Lights.”
I clicked “Report an Issue,” marked it on a map, typed in “broken street lamp” and the address. That was it.
Within hours, I saw confirmation that the Public Works Department had received the complaint and had issued a work order number. Three days later I looked out the kitchen window and there was a workman changing the bulb.
Excellent job, City of Oakland!
