Halloween in the Oakland Hills
My wife and I went to a fantastic Halloween party last night. The entire house and gardens were decorated straight out of a Hollywood horror movie: tombstones; full sized skeletons, spooky lights and eerie sounds. Down to the door mats, towels, and cobweb-covered bed linens, everything kept to the Halloween theme. The groaning board of a buffet was laid out on and around a real coffin set on a trestle table.
Costumes were extremely creative showing how long some guests had spent preparing and/or making them. Dr. Suess’s Cat-in-the-Hat came with his clown companion; there were enough incredibly dressed witches to form a coven; the Grim Reaper wandered in and out all evening without ever speaking a word; banshees and sundry caped characters raised goblets with a sari-ied lady, a Hawaiian Queen, a trio of bloodied chefs (who threatened to turn a few of the skeletons into their next stew) and one fellow who had to continually explain he was an Australian Coast Watcher (non-WWII-history buffs, look that one up – interesting!).
Our hosts were amazing, both in their hospitality and creativity. They say this may be their last HP, but we are hoping it ain’t so!
