Dimond Oaktoberfest: Bigger, Better Than Ever
Yesterday, my wife and I enjoyed one of Oakland’s newer traditions — Oaktoberfest in the Dimond district. We were happy to see that it had expanded from its MacArthur Blvd. only location, where it began in 2008, to spilling out onto Fruitvale Ave.
With three entertainment stages, there was, literally, dancing in the streets. Sausages, hot dogs, garlic fries, funnel cakes, and, of course, beer was plentiful. Our favorite shops, Farmer Joe’s, La Farine and Whiskers and Wags participated, among many other local merchants.
Since we are close to elections, lots of candidates had their own booths and were seen schmoozing with the public.
It was obvious that much thought and planning went into the event. The crowd was massive, with lots of happy folks, many with their pooches.
In the future, we hope the City of Oakland will allow this wonderful street fair to extend its hours past the present 6 PM closing as there were still hundreds of people partying at that time. Can’t wait for next year.
